DO IT YOURSELF FOR SAVINGS AND PRIDE OF ACCOMPLISHMENT Many racers get great satisfaction from building their cars. There's something quite satisfying about seeing something you've built go down the track and gain the admiration of your peers. It's gratifying to create something. And it is exactly this sense of accomplishment -and the knowledge that you can save money by doing it yourself—that prompted Mark Williams to build his first race car some 40-plus years ago. When other racers asked him to build them cars, Mark Williams Enterprises was launched. As MW Enterprises evolved into strictly a manufacturing entity, Williams stayed true to his chassis building roots and developed thoroughly engineered chassis kits containing all the necessary pieces to facilitate construction of first-rate cars that complied with prevailing SFI chassis specs. Today, MW offers a wide range of kits for applications from Comp and Super Comp Eliminators all the way through to the Alcohol classes and Nostalgia T/F and Funny Car. These kits contain all the necessary tubing (including mandrel-formed roll bars and hoops) plus engine plate, steering, rear end housing, front axle (or A-arms), spindles and a steering wheel. Welding rod is even included. After completion, contact your sanctioning organization and arrange for certification inspection. For those who wish to do things piecemeal, blueprints are offered separately, as are all the components sold in the kits. The kits, however, do offer savings over purchasing the components individually.
SOLID REAR-ENGINED DRAGSTER This is the kit that started it all, and has been the basis of NHRA event-winning race cars for many years. There are now basically two versions of this kit. One is a longer wheelbase kit that's best suited for supercharged cars -up to and including Top Alcohol Dragster, and the other is for shorter Super Comp-style unblown cars. The design complies with SFI Spec 2.3K. Supercharged cars require an optional full-floater housing.
